Prime Minister of the Faroes, Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen, opens Seas  the Future.
The Nordic Oceans Conference - Seas the Future - was opened today (Tuesday 7 June) with an opening address by the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen. The Prime Minister's opening presentation can be read here.
 
World Oceans Day Discussion  on 8 June in Tórshavn

Green economic growth in a changing climate has priority focus in Nordic cooperation today. The purpose of the Nordic Oceans Conference, Seas the Future, is to bring the fisheries and maritime sectors more clearly into the focus on sustainable growth, with prominent international, government, industry and research representatives from a range of sectors sharing their perspectives on the prospects and challenges for a sustainable future living off the sea across the North Atlantic.

 

The second day of the Conference coincides with UN World Oceans Day on 8 June, providing an excellent opportunity to highlight Nordic and North Atlantic perspectives on the ocean in the global context. Main Conference proceedings over two days will be divided into broad thematic sessions, concluding with the "World Oceans Day Discussion".

Maritime Safety in the North Atlantic
will be the focus of a special one-day Conference on Thursday 9 June in the Nordic House, immediately following Seas the Future. Organised by the Nordic Council, the West Nordic Council and NORA, the Conference will examine progress and gaps in cooperation in the region when it comes to risk assessment and monitoring of increasing shipping activities, emergency preparedness and search and rescue.
